Gipfel = die höchste Stelle eines Berges
In German, this means "the highest place in the mountains" or the summit or peak.
In Swedish it would be "det högsta stället i bergen".
You can see why, though I looked it up, I got it almost immediately.
Why am I doing this, you ask?
I...don't...know...
I was tracking my latest pathetic workout on google maps and I had reached Golconda Summit on Interstate 80, just east of Winnemucca. There were some photos there and one was labled "Golconda Gipfel". Knowing that there is a pass there, I figured Gipfel meant so, in German.
In Nevada, you don't go over passes as in Colorado, or gaps, as in Tennessee. You go over summits. They are not technically the summit, since they are not at the highest points.
So what connection does this have to the gospel?
I...don't...know...
The other experience I had the other day, and admittedly this might just be a brain fart was this:
I was carrying my several bags of groceries into the hotel, through the back door. I had all my groceries on one arm (high praise to sturdy Walmart bags with loops in them) and was trying to get my wallet with my card key out of it with my other hand. It was very difficult and frustrating.
I finally wangled (I thought I made up that word, but it's a real word and does not fit here, but I don't care) my key card out and slipped it in the lock, drew it out, and pushed the door handle down. Didn't open. I did this several times, and finally pulled UP on the handle and vwahlah it opened. Ticked me off.
Sometimes you have to pull up and sometimes push down to get this door to open.
As I walked in, a little voice in my head said, "Kill the hotel people. Kill them all." No, really, it didn't say that. It said, "What gospel lesson can you learn from this?"
To not listen to the bad voices?
To make two trips with groceries?
To get a different hotel?
To notify hotel maintenance?
To go in another door when your hands are full?
To buy fewer groceries?
To not sweat the small stuff?
To blog more often?
What? What? Tell me? I don't get it.
I never have figured out what gospel lesson there is here.
So...if you are reading this...YOU tell ME.

It's a man thing to only make one trip. It's in our genes.
Gospel application? He gives us burdens or trials to make life an education. Sometimes we make things harder by our own pride. When we do it limits us receiving revelation on how to reach the objective we want. So we try and try the same things that have worked before instead of trying the way that works.
So you are saying that I was being prideful by trying the same thing over and over which kept NOT working and hence limited my ability find the gospel lesson in the experience, thereby limiting my relationship with God?
I hate you, Kurt. YOU are the voice in my head.
Opposition in all things?
Love you,

Oh, good one, Mindy! Much better than Kurt accusing me of having pride. NOBODY accuses ME of pride and gets away with it. I will OPPOSE that!
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never cause the righteous to be moved. Psalms 55:22. The scripture that popped into my head as I read this, for what it is worth.
I like that, too. I never got anything out of a broken door latch.
I am one of how many voices inside your head? As long as most of them agree then you are pretty normal.
Glad you love me so much. It makes me smile.
Kurt
