Never a dull moment

I came home late last night, was all hyped up on diet cokes, and didn't get to bed until about 3 am. This was ok, since I had to work midnight tonight. BUT...just as I laid down, I noticed that I had forgotten to leave my hotel bill on the secretary's desk (so I can get reimbursed a few hundred bucks) and I took the government car keys home with me. I debated just getting up and driving back with them, but by then I was too tired, so just set my alarm for 7 and got up then.

Then I came home, and Cindy is going to be so mad at me, and I pulled the exercise bike upstairs into the living room. Hey, I'm home alone through tomorrow afternoon. I want to watch the real tv while I'm riding. So, with nobody home and nothing to do but get ready for my midnight shift, I rode off and on for a few hours for a total of 35 miles to Williston, ND. Total of 2,095.

I got a call from the Morristown Police Union about their annual charity drive. I told them I could give them a little this time. They said they'd be by after 1 pm to pick it up, just put it in an envelope under the door mat in front. That was at 11:30. So, I wrote out the check and put it under the mat, then laid down on the couch for some much needed sleep.

Suddenly, a car alarm goes off. HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK HONK

for almost thirty minutes straight. Of course, it woke me up immediately. I thought it might be down the street and I crawled out of my comfy couch to look. I opened the front door and the sound was in the driveway. It was the police volunteers trying to leave after picking up my check and leaving a receipt. I staggered over to the railing on that end and looked and there was a woman frantically waiving her arms and jumping up and down and a man in the driver's seat turning the key to start the car and yelling at her and she was yelling at him. I just went back inside. I couldn't help them, and I was sleeping trying to get ready for my mid. Thirty minutes. I kept checking on them. She kept yelling and jumping and waving, he kept turning and yelling and turning.

Suddenly, it just stopped. Did the battery die? Did the fail safe finally kick in and kill the car? I didn't care. All was bliss. I tried to lay down again but curiosity kept pulling me to the bedroom window. I looked like they were eating a leisurely lunch in the car. After another thirty minutes a tow truck pulled into the driveway and took them all away. It looked like they had spent themselves yelling.

And I lived happily ever after.
