More changes...

I rode 26 more miles yesterday for a total of 1,860 from home. I am within a day's ride of the Saskatchewan border. Woo hoo. It is wan and windswept. It is barren and boring. It is flat and featureless. It is unwaveringly uniform. When I get to Regina, I'm switching south, see some mountains, maybe. High hills, hopefully. Perky pinnacles, perhaps.

Cindy and I went and joined Weight Watchers together yesterday. She doesn't really need to lose much weight, but she's not happy and seems to be exercising and not eating much and it's just not working for her. I am exercising and eating good food, but too much of it. I was so glad she would join with me. There is strength in numbers. And she made a remarkable observation during our training session with our leader that got me thinking. She said, when the leader, Amy, had explained about eating a variety of good foods, "Wow, knowledge is what makes it successful."

I got to thinking about our different personality types. She thrives on structure and consistency. I thrive on freedom and variety. Weight Watchers gives her the structure she demands and the variety she needs. It gives me the variety I love, and the structure I require. It sets limits and then says, "You have complete freedom within these limits." This the same talk I've give to the youth for years about what the Lord says to us in the gospel: "Keep my commandments. Other than that, just be yourself."

I am going to keep track of my weight loss here, too. I was going to keep track of my actual weight. But this is not the Biggest Loser. I dunno. Maybe I will. Who knows? I love the freedom of choosing with no structure.
