Rode 11.3 miles today. Made it up the road to Elk Valley, TN. There are no elk in this valley. There used to be, 150 years ago. But black bear do occasionally wander through Knoxville, even downtown, at night.
My boss called for a budget meeting today at 1 pm. It was my day off this week, but I made plans to go in, nonetheless. When I got there at 12:30, the meeting was in full sway. I asked around and he had changed the time to 10:30, just this morning, without bothering to call me. So I did a couple other things instead and went home.
We rented a movie, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". Not a bad movie, like the remake of the earth standing still. That should have been titled, the "The Day the Plot Stood Still". The acting in Button was mostly outstanding, except that Brad Pitt, did the Keanu Reeves thing and never changed the expression on his face for 166 minutes. Yes, you heard it here folks. The movie was 2 hours and 46 minutes long and it was as existential as they come: "Life sucks and then you die", "Nothing good lasts forever", "Oh, I'm getting old and everything hurts and I regret so much", "Oh, yeah? Well, I'm getting younger and getting acne and I still regret everything so I'm leaving. Maybe I'll come back when I have 8 year old Alzheimers and then you can change my diapers." Now, I like depressing alternative music as much as the next person, but this movie would put Evanescence into therapy. The only thing missing was Marvin from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".
Tomorrow morning I need to be at work at 0600 to get ready for a talk at the Morristown morning Rotary Club about forecasting climate and drought and Is The Drought Really Over and is Global Warming Really True?
Goodnight.

Oh, that's ok. I like to watch thoughtful movies now and then, and not all life's stories have happy endings. But usually there is happiness in every life. For instance, I love the movie "Solaris". It's thought proviking, weird, sci fi, and Mom would hate it probably. But I've seen it five times. AND, get this, there are no rain forests or tall mountains in it. Really.
I never made it the whole way through the movie, "Hitchhiker's" It was so bad. Did you ever see the movie, "Serenity" it is a Sci Fi movie with a good plot line.
What is the official statement on Global warming by The National Weather Service?
You have to read the Hitchhiker's books first. And you have to realize the movie was not much like the books. And you have to repent and watch it again. Never heard of Serenity. NOAA makes us say that global warming may be real, but the causes of it are open for honest debate. There is no honest debate on the far right or the far left. As usual, the truth lies somewhere down the middle. Just like Joseph Smith said.
